Carol Holmes, LCSW

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and I have 10 years of experience working with mental health/substance use disorder populations. I am well-versed in working with adults experiencing behavioral challenges, anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use disorders, and grief. I utilize an Existential/Mindfulness-based approach.

My Approach:

An Existential/Mindfulness-based approach is utilized, which combines the core principles of Existential Therapy, which focuses on finding meaning in life, with mindfulness practices that encourage present-moment awareness and nonjudgmental observation of self, as well as others. This allows one to experience thoughts/feelings fully without being overwhelmed. I also utilize Person-Centered, Trauma-Informed, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive and Narrative Therapies.

My Focus:

I am well-versed in working with adults experiencing behavioral challenges, anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use disorders, grief, as well as chronic conditions.

 Communication Style:

The focus is on creating a safe, supportive space for clients to explore experiences while developing coping skills and symptom-reduction strategies uniquely tailored to their needs.

My Journey to Mental Healthcare:

I love people! Since childhood, I have always been the go-to person for friends/family and even strangers. People usually feel comfortable sharing their thoughts/feelings with me and in return, I can be empathetic, and practice active listening.

My Goal for Client:

The Client-Centered approach is prioritized, focusing on identifying the specific needs/strengths of the client while collaboratively setting goals that are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) to ensure that progress can be tracked/adjusted as needed.

My first session with the client:

During the first session, I would work toward understanding what brought the client to therapy; and what he/she is struggling with. This may involve family history, traumatic experiences, and/or mental health symptoms. Equally important we would begin to build a rapport and a sense of collaboration.
